Tips & Tricks for Leather

Let’s be honest, there are so many deliciously fluffy and beautiful sofas out there in a wide variety of materials. But the one staple for every household would have to be leather. In our experience, they can be extremely elegant statement pieces while also being the closest thing to child proof.

Tips and tricks for leather

If properly cared for, a leather piece can last a lifetime. And as they generally cost a pretty penny we obviously want them to persevere through all the dinner parties, game nights, and sticky fingers that will surely come its way. So, with that in mind here are some tips and tricks to make sure they do exactly that!

Leather furniture
  1. Regularly vacuum and de-junk. As a prime location for lounging, snuggling, and eating there will always be something hiding in the many luscious folds. So be sure to remove any cushions and use a vacuum to get out all the dust and candy (tip: if you don’t have a long skinny attachment for your vacuum to get down into the cracks try using a sock on your hand to glide through and shake off after each pass).
  2. Be gentle when it comes to a cleaning solution. Something as simple as 1 teaspoon of baby soap in a large bowl of warm water will both clean and condition the leather–and BONUS it doesn’t need to be rinsed!
  3. Dampen don’t soak! If you get the leather too wet the excess water will cause it to dry out and crack which is the opposite effect of what we are going for. Use a microfiber cloth in your cleaning solution and ring it out as much as possible then wipe down all the surfaces and let air dry. This regular easy maintenance if done every couple of months will go a long way in preserving the integrity of your piece.
  4. If necessary, re-touch. Shoe polish is a perfect option to give your piece back some color it may have lost over the years, just try to find one that is as close in color as possible. You can use a clean old sock and gently rub the polish over the leather. Just remember this will not moisturize the leather so let it dry overnight and then use a conditioner to give it back some life.
  5. Snuggle in with a cozy blanket, a special someone, and a cup of deliciousness of your choice and enjoy!
